THE BOOK:<\/strong> A Russia that was the Soviet Union, a Saint Petersburg that was called Leningrad. And an Italian student who arrived there in 1962 with a scholarship from the Communist Party. Through the corridors of the university and the streets of the metropolis, Carlo Fredduzzi reveals the daily life of Soviet citizens. And the stories and anecdotes of those years reveal an unknown page in the history of Italian-Russian relations: the unique experience of the over one hundred Italians who, between the 1950s and 1960s, in the middle of the Cold War, crossed the Iron Curtain to study in the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n

Carlo Fredduzzi<\/strong> Director of the Institute of Russian Language and Culture in Rome, translator and journalist. After studying at “La Sapienza” in Rome in the Russian course directed by Angelo Maria Ripellino, since 1962 he has been studying at the \u017ddanov University of Leningrad, where he graduated honorary in 1967. He worked for the TASS Agency, the Critica Marxista magazine and Rai. Since 1970 he has been secretary of the Italy-USSR Association in Rome and in 1991 founded the Institute of Russian Language and Culture. He has published several volumes of Russian and Soviet history and numerous articles on foreign policy. He participated in the Italian translation of the first six volumes of the Universal History of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR<\/em> (Teti Editore).<\/p>\n
