BOOK:<\/strong> V\u00f5 Nguy\u00ean Gi\u00e1p\u00a0is one of the world’s best strategists who revolutionized the art of war and the military science. His innovative military ideas made him a true legend. Master of guerrilla warfare and of bite and escape<\/em>\u00a0tactics, he managed to overcome the disproportion of forces by means of his genial intuition, defeating armies which were more numerous and better armed than his own. After his victories over the Japanese in World War II and over the French colonialists humiliated by his troops in the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, Giap gained successful results in his armed struggle against the US invaders that brought to a clamorous collapse of the North American giant in 1975. To celebrate one hundred years passed since the General’s birth, \u201cSandro Teti Publishing House\u201d republishes The Armed Masses and the Regular Army<\/em>, book containing the best ideas of a great interpreter of a \u201cpeople’s war\u201d. Completed with Luciano Canfora’s and Tommaso De Lorenzis’ writings, this new edition offers to a reader a classical book of military thought. The publisher combines his wish to preserve the work in a philological way, update it in a critical way and make it accessible to the widest range of readers. The text becomes an occasion for re-considering and re-evaluating the metaphoric sense of this Guerrilla man and of other modern epic icons of a mass-communication society.<\/p>\n

AUTHOR:<\/strong> V\u00f5 Nguy\u00ean Gi\u00e1p\u00a0(An Ka, August, 25th, 1911 \u2013 Hanoi, October 4th, 2013) was a military leader of Ho Chi Minh’s Vietminh and of the Vietnamese Popular Army. He vanquished the armed forces of Japan, France, USA and spent more than thirty years struggling for the independence of Vietnam. Entered the world’s history for having assaulted Dien Bien Phu, headed the Tet offensive and won the battle of Saigon, he became Minister of Defense and Vice Prime Minister of Vietnamese Democratic Republic. Retired from the politics in 1982, he came back onto the public stage to declare he was against a massive project of mineral extraction in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.<\/p>\n

Giap wrote about his experience of a military leader in the following books: A Great Victory, A Great Operation<\/em>\u00a0(1947), Dien Bien Phu<\/em>\u00a0(1955) and We Will Win Once Again<\/em>\u00a0(1970).<\/p>\n
