THE BOOK: <\/strong>Khans, princes and warriors populate the heroic epic of the Oghuz, the Turkic tribes who settled in Central Asia between the Middle Ages and the modern age, from which the Seljuks and Ottomans descended. The twelve prose stories collected in this destan narrate their deeds against the “infidels” for affirmation in the lands of the Caucasus and have their roots in oral tradition in the thirteenth century. Holding the tales together is the figure of Dede Korkut, the wise bard who goes through the vicissitudes of several generations, gives advice and dictates moral principles.
A milestone in the literary culture of Turkish-speaking countries such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Turkmenistan, a fundamental work that immerses the reader in a fairytale atmosphere, in a constant game of parallels with Western myths.<\/p>\n

Federico De Renzi <\/strong> is a Turkologist and PhD in Languages, Cultures and Societies of Asia and Africa at La Sapienza University in Rome. Since 2005 he has been collaborating as a political analyst with geopolitical and cultural magazines, such as Limes, and with other television and radio publications<\/em>. He is involved in specific research projects on the political and cultural history of Turkey and Central and Eastern Eurasia, as well as in cycles of conferences on these topics. He is a member of the scientific committee for the journal of political analysis Mediterranean Affairs<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Isa Habibbeyli <\/strong> is an eminent scholar, a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and the International Academy of Informatics. He is the director of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature and is a member of the Azerbaijani National Parliament (Milli Madjlis). His studies focus, in particular, on Azerbaijani and Turkish literature.<\/p>\n
